IBM Liberty Profile has full J2EE support and it’s free for development!!! Thank you IBM ! Finally you have listened to the developers. It was always a nightmare to use the full IBM Application Server in a laptop especially when you are debugging. Also you can send the entire server setup to another developer and in no time your co-workers will have the application up and running. Let’s see how to setup the Liberty with eclipse (In case you are using RAD you can also follow along, it will almost be the same). Find here how to setup IBM Liberty Profile.
Version:
- IBM Liberty Profile 8.5.5.6
- JDK 8
Steps:
Download the “Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers” from eclipse.org and extract the zip folder. Then open eclipse.exe. Then click on Help-> Eclipse Marketplace
.
Find for liberty
and click install on IBM WebSphere Application Server Liberty Profile Developer Tools
Click Confirm.
Once installed, you can find the option for creating server with Liberty Profile. Select & click next.
You need to click on download/install.
Select the below option (the version might be different for you). Click next.
Install any add-ons you want to install. I will recommend at least below two (Extended Programming Model & Admin Center). Click on install and then Next.
Accept license. Click Next.
Select a destination folder. Click on Finish.
Now Select Next.
You can name your server. I have left it as “defaultServer”. Click Finish.
Now your Liberty should have been configured.
In case you have got this error : “The [defaultSSLConfig] sslRef attributes required by the orb element with the defaultOrb id have not been resolved within 10 seconds. As a result, the applications will not start. Ensure that you have included a keyStore element and that Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is configured correctly. If the sslRef is defaultSSLConfig, then add a keyStore element with the id defaultKeyStore and a password.”
Open the Server Configuration ( server.xml ) and go to design view. Then Select Server Configuration and click on Add.
Search for Keystore. Select it and click OK.
Click on Set…
Type a password of min 6 characters long. Click OK.
Following should be displayed. Now save the XML from the menu or Ctrl+S and start the server.
